The Coma-Doof Warrior
We just had to start off with this guy. And yeah, according to director George Miller, that's the flamethrower-guitar guy's name. Whatever that means, and whatever his deal is, who can say? And really, who needs to know when this is the end result:Toecutter
The chief baddie in the very first Mad Max movie, Toecutter is an... elegant scumbag. Well spoken and refined, in his way, Toecutter is the kind of guy who you might expect to see taking afternoon tea. If not for the whole being named Toecutter thing. He's also played by Hugh Keays-Byrne, who returns to the Wasteland this weekend after a 36-year break to play the main villain Immortan Joe in Mad Max: Fury Road. The Nightrider
Not much is known about the Nightrider, the first speed-maniac that Max ever faced onscreen, aside from the fact that he was given to moments of great boasting -- "I am the Nightrider! I'm a fuel-injected suicide machine!" -- and even greater emotional outbursts.Wez
Lord Humungus' "dog of war" Wez is not to be trifled with. While Humungus is the mastermind of the gang of miscreants and freaks in the second Mad Max film, it is Wez who serves as Max's chief antagonist. He's the kind of guy who will pull an arrow out of his arm, crack a skull with a headbutt, and then scream like he's in the crowd on a Saturday night at CBGB's -- all while looking really good doing it in his Mohawk, shoulder pads and chaps. The
He doesn't talk. He's basically a wolf boy. But he's got that sharp, sharp boomerang. And he's fearless. Even Max himself can't help but take a liking to the Feral Kid.Read on for more Mad Max madness...
The Toadie
This lackey of the Lord Humungus isn't much of a fighter. But he's very skilled in the art of toadying. Obviously. And so Humungus keeps him around to announce the feared leader's arrival at social gatherings and soon-to-be plundered sites -- the famed "Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla" speech comes from the Toadie. It is that introduction, and his run-in with the Feral Kid's boomerang, that the character is best-remembered for.Master Blaster
"He's the ball cracker. Death on foot. You know him. You love him! He's Blaster!" Of course, Blaster's just one part of the equation here. As Max himself put it so eloquently, "I see a big guy giving a little guy a piggyback." And that pretty much sums up Beyond Thunderdome's Master Blaster, the double-threat that's got brains and brawn. Also, apparently, ball-cracking.Scrooloose
Of the "Waiting Ones" -- a.k.a. the tribe of kids Max happens upon in Beyond Thunderdome -- Scrooloose is particularly memorable because he's, well, crazy. Sort of a Buster Keaton character with post-apocalyptic trappings, he's mute like the Feral Kid although much more innocent. Also, he drives a car upside down. And backwards.Pig Killer
Max's unlikely ally isn't particularly good at planning for the future, but he's a nice enough guy. Really, he's quite an optimist considering the eponymous act which landed him a life sentence in the pig farms in the bowels of Bartertown. But I can feel it. The dice are rolling. Good things may come for him yet!Honorable Mention: Dog
O.K., Max's faithful friend from The Road Warrior isn't insane or crazy or anything. Just awesome and lovable. And so cool...The world of Mad Max is full of such delightful weirdos . Who are your favorites? Let's discuss in the comments!
