Arrow: The Dark Archer is the latest addition to DC's lineup of digital-first comics. The series is planned as a 12 chapter story, with new chapters debuting every two weeks beginning on Wednesday, January 13. If DC's past digital-first projects are any indication, print issues and a trade paperback collection will follow later. Each chapter will be available for purchase on the DC Comics app and other digital providers like Comixology, iVerse, the Kindle Store, iBooks, and the Nook Store.
Similar to the TV series, Arrow: The Dark Archer will feature both a present-day storyline and recurring flashbacks. The main story will take place in between seasons 3 and 4 of the show as Merlyn assumes control of the League, with the flashbacks shedding light on Merlyn's training, how he acquired his fortune, the formation of Merlyn Global Group and other previously unseen plot points.Barrowman told TV Insider that the comic will give him a chance to bring life to the back-story he's developed for his character over the past four seasons of Arrow. "I’ve had a backstory in my head for Malcolm from the beginning and a lot of it has made its way into our comic and onto the screen. I think it’s always been my job to help the audience relate to Malcolm in some way despite his questionable morals and evil ways."
Arrow: The Dark Archer will be the third digital-first series to tie into the show, after the 2012-2013 Arrow comic and the 2014-2015 Arrow: Season 2.5.
In other Arrow news, we recently learned that Megalyn Echikunokwe, who voiced Vixen in the recent animated web series, will be reprising the role in live action in Arrow's fourth season.
