Shrine Locations and Guide
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has 152 Shrine locations to find and complete on its two maps – 120 on the Surface and 32 in the Sky. There are no Shrines in the Depths but there are Lightroots to discover that act as fast travel points similar to Shrines. Each shrine contains a mini-dungeon of puzzles to solve and loot including at least one Treasure Chest and a Light of Blessing.
In this TotK Shrine Guide you'll find walkthroughs for shrines, and importantly, how to get to them. Some shrines are hidden in caves or even off the map, locked away by a shrine quest. Landing in Hyrule with little to no direction as to which Shrines are the closest or easiest can be a bit daunting, so we've also put together a list of the Best Shrines to Complete First.

Collect 4 Lights of Blessing to bring to a Goddess Statue (like the one in the Emergency Shelter in Lookout Landing) to expand your Heart Containers or Stamina bar.
TOTK Shrines contain a variety of challenges: Some are small dungeons that feature a central puzzle theme that exercise your skills like Ascension, Ultra Hand, and Recall. Others contain Constructs that test Link's combat skills and range from relatively easy to fairly difficult.
There are also "free" shrines: These shrines don’t have puzzles themselves, but may be a reward for Shrine Quests or accomplishing another feat, like merely reaching a difficult-to-reach Shrine.
Locating Shrines
You can use our Tears of the Kingdom Interactive Map to find all of the Shrines, this page links to locations and puzzle solutions as well, but here are tips for finding Shrines:
- Shrines appear as a green, glowing source of light, and you can see them much better at night, and from the Sky. If you click the RIGHT STICK and use your telescopic pad function to mark them you can easily track them.
- Shrines are located in the Sky and the Depths as well as the Surface. The Coordinates we provide in the Shrine Guide below will help you determine if a Shrine is above or below you.
- The Shrine of Light Sensor can be obtained from the Hateno Village Research Lab and activated by Robbie after you’ve completed one temple and advanced the Lookout Landing Side Adventures that take you to the Depths called Hateno Village Research Lab. This will indicate a nearby Shrine, even a hidden one, and now adds some detail about whether it’s below or above you.
- Note that some Shrines aren't always visible nor will they be tracked through the Shrine of Light Sensor, and you might need to talk to a character with a red mark (this indicates Side Quests to start Shrine Quests to solve riddles to reveal their location.
- Shrines also serve as your key points of fast travel in Tears of the Kingdom. You don’t have to complete a Shrine to make it a fast travel point: You just need to activate the green seal in front of the shrine. You can return later to solve the puzzle.
- Every Shrine has at least one treasure chest. Your map icon will turn fully blue when you’ve completed a Shrine, but it will stay partially orange if you haven’t found the Shrine exit and Light of Blessing OR if you haven’t found all of the chests.
- Most Shrines are on the Surface. There are no Shrines in the Depths but there are Shrines in the Sky. Note that the Depths have Light Roots the illuminate the Depths and the map in of the Depths, and their locations correlate with the Shrines above them.

Shrine Location: The Serutabomac Shrine is behind Hyrule Castle on the northeast side of the floating island. One of the best ways to get here early on is by using the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower to get high above the castle then glide over. This is easier still with more stamina and if you've completed the challenge in Rito. Glide over to the long entryway on the first floor of the castle that leads to the throne room. Walk out the exit that leads northeast. There are some good weapons here, though, so be sure to explore!
Once outside climb anything to get some height and glide down and over to the northeastern most part of the now-island and you'll see the shrine on the B1 level of the dungeon.

To get to this shrine, you'll need to find a cave under Mount Hylia. Its entrance is by the waterfall at the start of the River of the Dead. If you approach the area from the Temple of Time Ruins, look just to the west of the waterfall, and you should see a Blupee. Cross to it (we recommend climbing up to the east side of the waterfall and gliding over to dodge enemies and skip trying to cross the water). Follow the Blupee, and it'll disappear not long after you spotted it. Follow the path behind the waterfall, and you'll get the notification that you've discovered the River of the Dead Waterfall Cave.

Shrine Location: From Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower, launch into the air and turn southeast. Your goal is to get to the small island next to the floating sphere – but it may be outside of your stamina range, so land on the eastern tip of the large island away from the enemy boss stalking the platform.
Here you’ll find a Zonai hovercraft-like device pre-built for the taking. First, add all the extra batteries nearby by using Ultrahand to glue them to the hovercraft. Head right for the sphere in the sky and land on the island with the rock launcher and gumball-machine-like Zonai Device Dispenser next to it. You should have one battery remaining of the six you started out with. Nice! Activate the Natak shrine platform and you will begin The Sokkala Sky Crystal Shrine Quest.
- Gikaku Shrine Guide - Shrine Quest Required
Shrine Challenge: Tap to Reveal
Shrine Rewards: Tap to Reveal
Shrine Location: Gikaku Shrine is high above the spiral-shaped Rist Peninsula in the Akkala Sky. There is no easy way to get there without spare Zonai equipment. Starting from Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower, launch into the air and look for a small island with a circular pool and a tower on it. Paraglide to this island. SAVE YOUR GAME, as its easy to mess up the next part of your journey. There are Zonai device parts here, but not nearly enough to get you to the northeast islands and Gikaku Shrine. To reach it, you’ll need three Fans, a Wing, a Controller, and two Batteries. The Wing and one Fan can be found on the island. The rest you’ll have to bring along from Zonai Device dispensers. Create a plane with three fans, a controller and two batteries. To get started you’ll need to use Ultrahand to move the plane into the air, and then safely back to the ground on the northeaster edge of the peninsula, then get on the wing, use Recall to lift you up and over into the air.
Deactivate recall and hop on the Controller. Pilot up and towards the nearest northeastern island. You should easily gain enough distance and height with two batteries and three fans to reach the island with the Gikaku Shrine platform. Activate the shrine pad so you can fast travel here. This will begin The Sky Mine Crystal Shrine Quest.

Shrine Location: Mogisari Shrine is located on the south side of the Lomei Sky Labyrinth in the far, far northeast corner of Hyrule. To get there from the surface, the closest tower is the Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower, but it’s a LONG WAY to the Shrine. You will either have create and eat a lot of stamina-increasing food to get there, or use Zonai devices.
Your target either way is a small sky island to the southwest of the labyrinth with a tower and a pool of water on it.
If you choose the stamina route: You’ll need about 4 rings of stamina to get here with the paraglider from the Skyview Tower. Cook these items and float to the island with the pool, north of the tower. This is the North Akkala Sky Archipelago.
If you choose the Zonai device route: Start at the Gikaku Shrine (go to the Gikaku Shrine Guide to see how to get there from the Skyview Tower). Use the stone launcher to get up to the second level of the Sky Mine. Here is a floating Zonai platform with two rockets and a Construct on it. Kill the Construct and get on the platform. Affix the two rockets to its surface, aimed at the North Akkala Sky Archipelago. Now, with the rockets firmly affixed, move the platform with Ultrahand allll the way to the north side of the island.
Get on the platform and activate the rockets to take you about half of the way to the island. From here you are high enough that you should be able to float down. If you have no stamina expansions, try using another rocket, or fan, affixed to the platform. Now, safely on the small island in the North Akkala Sky Archipelago, you will need an air ship to get you to the Labyrinth entrance above. Luckily, there’s one here. Among the Small Fairies is a perfectly useable fan-plane, and look down the steps on the north side for tons of extra batteries. A total of 8 batteries will get you there easily. The last leg of the journey will be assisted by low gravity as well!
